World
Health
Day
is
celebrated
by
the
people
on
April
7th
under
the
guidance
and
sponsorship
of
World
Health
Organization
(WHO),
to
mark
the
founding
of
the
World
Health
Organization.
Each
year,
the
WHO
selects
a
theme
regarding
global
health
issue
and
organizes
campaigns
to
spread
awareness
about
that
particular
topic.
The
theme for this year celebration is Vector-borne Diseases, to
highlight the increasing threat of the diseases and vectors.
Vector-borne
diseases
are
a
global
threat,
that
are
transmitted
by
vectors
like mosquitoes, ticks, bugs, sand flies, snails and viruses or
bacteria between people or animals, which can cause malaria, dengue
fever, chikungunya, yellow fever, etc. Therefore,
this
theme
has
been
selected
in
recognition
to
reflect
on
the
health
hazards
associated
with
vectors.
WHO,
on this day organizes campaign to encourage people to conduct health
promoting activities to spread information about the increasing
threat of vector-borne diseases, that can lead to better life.
The
objective of this day is to integrate the day into a supportive
public health strategy to incorporate health more broadly and it is
the expectation of many that their right to health care will be
acknowledged regardless of ones economic or social status.
